Bergenfield First Responders Reunited With Power Outage Baby

The heroes who helped deliver a baby in a Bergenfield house with no power last week were reunited with him earlier this week.

The Bergenfield Volunteer Ambulance Corps, Inc. was dispatched to a woman in labor in a house without power on March 7.

"They were in the process of shoveling out their car when they realized the baby was coming right away," Bergenfield Volunteer Ambulance Corps Capt. Ryan Shell told Daily Voice.

Despite the winter storm and several road detours due to fallen power lines, EMTs and officers from the Bergenfield Police Department responded to the scene in less than three minutes.

Shortly after arriving on scene, EMTs, police officers and paramedics from Englewood Hospital and Medical Center helped the woman deliver a baby Colin.

"About 15 minutes after we got there the baby was delivered in the house with no power," Shell said.

Days later, Shell and four other first responders who helped deliver baby Colin were able to meet him again.

"It was terrific," the captain said. "Seeing everyone healthy and happy is a great thing."
